The Jewish readers would have understood the author’s point. Centuries of animal sacrifices in the Jewish tabernacles and temples, performed to atone for the sins of the people, all poured to the one sacrifice that really matters, the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus when He died on the cross to atone for our sins. Sometimes when we study Bible doctrine, we forget that our doctrine is based upon historical events. The doctrine of sin is founded on the actual event of Adam’s sin. The doctrine of salvation is founded on the historical fact of the death and resurrection of Christ. A key to understanding the death of Christ is to recognize the resurrection of Christ. The focus of Christianity is not a crucifix but rather an empty cross and an empty tomb. Christ died but lives today in those who profess the Gospel, which is His resurrection and eternal life for those who believe.

My 90 year-old mother (3 💉) is rapidly waning in her short-term memory - I have been spending what extra (?) time I have at her house recently, helping her with bills, legal decisions, medical care -- I never thought I’d have to through THIS with her as her mother lived to age 98 with FULL mental capacity!!!!
